Progressive guitar virtuoso ANGEL VIVALDI is fresh off of his successful Touring You Apart tour and already planning his touring schedule for spring 2016. In the meantime, Vivaldi has been hard at work putting the finishing touches on his cover of “Crystal Planet” (featuring As Blood Runs Black‘s Dan Sugarman), originally performed by guitar legend Joe Satriani.
ANGEL VIVALDI is pleased to unleash this re-imagined track along with its accompanying music video today via Guitar World. Watch here: http://www.guitarworld.com/angel-vivaldi-premieres-crystal-planet-music-video/25995
ANGEL VIVALDI‘s modern progressive take on Satriani’s guitar rock anthem sees the song in a much heavier light. “The original has practically no rhythm guitar in it at all. A lot of those progressions were fantastic but were often overlooked by, of course, Joe’s stellar playing. My goal was to make the song groovier and exaggerate the leads with different dynamics/harmonies,” Vivaldi says. “I’ve always admired Joe’s ability to say a lot with the simplest phrasing. I wanted to honor these melodies with more dramatic, sometimes even aggressive variations to compliment the feel of the rhythm guitars.”

The video was directed by Tony Stewart, who also sat in the director’s chair for Vivaldi’s video for the track “A Martian Winter”. The “Crystal Planet” cover was produced by Will Putney at Graphic Nature Audio (After The Burial, Shadows Fall, Northlane). Putney also produced Vivaldi’s latest release, Away With Words, Part 1 (iTunes) and the critically acclaimed Universal Language EP (iTunes).
“Crystal Planet” and more releases are available on iTunes and Bandcamp (https://angelvivaldi.bandcamp.com).
