First Taste Of This Fall’s Sophomore Album

OLD BRIDGE, NJ – Generation Underground returns with their explosive new single “What’s the Vibe.” The track delivers a crushing collision of modern rock, nu-metal, and metalcore, sharpened by a pop-informed edge and designed for maximum impact in the Hard Rock realm.

“We put two and a half years of blood, sweat, and tears into this—it’s finally ready to be released from its cage,” says frontman Mike Florentine, vocalist and guitarist for the powerful trio.

The accompanying music video was created by Motus Insaniam, who previously worked with the band on a lyric video from the Kold Blooded, Vol. 1 EP. “Motus did our video for ‘Meth Man’ a couple of years ago and he did a great job on that video along with this one!” Florentine adds.

Hailing from the same town that gave us the legendary Old Bridge Metal Militia—an iconic crew of diehard headbangers who helped shape the New Jersey and NYC metal scene—Generation Underground carries that same DIY fire and passion for heavy music into a new generation.

Florentine’s chance meeting with M. Shawn “Clown” Crahan at Mayhem Fest led to him watching Slipknot from the side of the stage. Add to that a formative experience seeing Slayer and having his first drink with Motörhead leader Lemmy, and he was hooked on heavy music for life.

Generation Underground has carved out its own space with a rebellious mix of grit, melody, and raw emotion since 2014. Florentine, guitarist Jared Seliber, and drummer Steve Wellz draw from a wide range of influences—classic thrash, nü-metal, hardcore, metalcore, and deathcore—while keeping a strong focus on songwriting that features big hooks and crowd-energizing passion.

Their debut EP, Slaves to the World, was produced by Disturbed bassist John Moyer and established the tone for their aggressive musical journey. Fellow New Jersey native Chris Pennie, founding drummer of The Dillinger Escape Plan and formerly of Coheed And Cambria, was another early supporter. The trio followed with a self-titled full-length in 2018, the Kold Blooded, Vol. 1 EP in 2020, and Kold Blooded, Vol. 2 in 2022, each project pushing their sound further. Asbury Park Vibes hailed their songs as “the kind of music you feel deep down in your bones.”

Whether sharing stages with modern deathcore titans or rock veterans, Generation Underground consistently proves itself to be a versatile and commanding live act. They’ve earned spots on shows with some of the most respected names in 21st-century heavy music, including Slaughter To Prevail, Lorna Shore, Chelsea Grin, Escape The Fate, Carnifex, and Drowning Pool.

The group was honored with the Akademia Award for Best Rock Song in 2020, and their online presence continues to grow, with nearly 100K YouTube views and over 31K monthly Spotify listeners. SiriusXM and terrestrial radio have also taken notice, as their story continues to unfold.

“What’s the Vibe” arrives ahead of a new full-length album set for Fall 2025.

For Generation Underground, it marks the beginning of a new chapter — one that’s heavier, sharper, and more unapologetically their own. The single and video are now available everywhere.
