San Francisco based progressive metal act Gürschach has released their new single “Dawn of a New”, set to be the second single from their upcoming album “Absolutely Nothing” due out next year. Released on June 28, this new single and accompanying music video is set to be a look into the story of the concept album, as well as an evolution of the band’s roots on their new record. As a song clearly going for a desert vibe while still being metal, this track features an acoustic guitar, bass solos, guitar solos, a Persian Tar, a Persian Ney, and guest vocals from King Night of Nox Sinister.

Directed by Rob Watkins of Watkins Media, the music video appears to be filmed in the infamous Area 51, and showcases astronomical (and perhaps some alien) themes. Gürschach is seen in the Nevada desert throughout the video, even passing by a well-known tourist trap; Area 51 Alien Center. The music video itself begins immediately with a restricted area sign indicating the band really made their way to Area 51. As King Night appears for the song’s initial callout, Gürschach is shown traveling across a dirt path in a truck and trailer, and setting up a podium in the middle of the desert for a broadcast. The band calls on the viewers of both the broadcast, as well as the music video, with the repeating phrase “raise your fingers and follow me” being heard by people tuning in to the broadcast.

Reaction channels who picked up the video especially noted its ending in particular, as the band appears to be apprehended and detained by military personnel. Upon viewing it, these were some of the reactions:

“Area 51, right? Military base, right? Can’t just film a music video there.” – Ryan, Lost in Vegas

“God, how terrified would someone have been to see that?” – AmeDoll

“They’ll really jam you up like that over there” – Vin, Vin and Sori

“Was that ‘cause they’re in Area 51?” – Omar Rodriguez, The Metal Mixtape

When asked about the ending, the band refused to comment, saying they could neither confirm nor deny anything about Area 51; thus leaving its legitimacy up to the viewer to decide.

About Gürschach:

Gürschach (pronounced Ger-shock) is a Progressive Metal act from San Francisco. Since 2013, the lineup has featured lead guitarist and vocalist X, bassist and vocalist Scotty McRib, guitarist and keyboardist Leyland Reid, and drummer Daniel Justo-Sanchez.

On October 10, 2015, Gürschach released their first EP, Beautiful Nightmares, independently on a micro-budget, as an embodiment of the phrase DIY. The music on the EP would be the first and last time the band would release a straightforward Thrash Metal record.

After touring through 2016 and 2017, the quartet returned to the studio to complete their first full-length album, Dark Matter, on December 1, 2017. Three music videos and two lyric videos were produced to promote Dark Matter, with “Undead Empire” and “Innocent Blood” garnering the lion’s share of media attention. The band continued to tour through 2018 and 2019, embarking on the Kiss Our Jobs Goodbye Tour in 2019 and joined festivals such as Death In The Dunes and Redwood Metalfest.

In 2020, Gürschach released a reimagined version of Metallica‘s infamous title track “St. Anger” from 2003 with a total production overhaul. Upon upload, it quickly spread throughout the heavy metal scene on a global scale, and still continues to attract massive amounts of attention to this day. Following this, the group prepared original tracks from home during the pandemic which would ultimately complete the Hypnotic Disasters EP, kicking off the promotion with their version of Slayer’s iconic “Dead Skin Mask.” The 2022 EP is available on all major streaming services.

Gürschach is currently seeking management, as well as label, distribution & touring opportunities. All interested parties can contact the band via the links below or through their website.
