Italian guitarist brings a bold international voice to Spread Eagle’s new album,
TheBrutal Divine, and its 14-country European tour.
NEW YORK, N.Y. – Internationally recognized Italian guitarist Gianmaria”Jommy” Puledda is taking the stage across Europe this September with Spread Eagle, bringing the band’s explosive new album, The Brutal Divine, to audiences throughout the continent.
Released this past June 12 through Frontiers Music Srl, The Brutal Divine is Spread Eagle’s long-awaited fourth studio album – and the first to showcase Puledda’s influence as the band’s guitarist and
arranger. The record marks a powerful new chapter for the legendary New York street-metal band, combining the raw attitude of its classic sound with a darker, heavier and more musically adventurous direction.
Puledda played an essential creative role in shaping the album. Working closely with bassist and producer Rob De Luca, he developed the guitar arrangements in his home studio before recording the final tracks at Studio E in Brooklyn with Grammy-winning engineer Tom Camuso. From the
rhythm guitars and commanding riffs to the harmonies and lead work, Puledda’s musical identity runs throughout the record.
His performance on The Brutal Divine has already drawn attention from the rock press. Critics have praised his ability to balance technical precision with melody and emotion, while KNAC highlighted his solo on “Flat Earth Vultures” as evidence that Spread Eagle can still “rock out
with the best of them.”
Other reviews have described the album as one of the band’s most ambitious and powerful releases, with Puledda receiving repeated recognition for his standout guitar work. KNAC praised his soloing, while ZRockR noted the many opportunities the record gives him to shine.
Songs including “Street Noise,” “Ant Farm,” “Gunflower” and “Flat Earth Vultures” reveal the full range of Puledda’s abilities. His playing moves effortlessly between crushing riffs, soaring harmonies and expressive solos, giving each song its own personality while maintaining the grit and danger associated with Spread Eagle. The band’s official album announcement describes his contribution as a combination of “razor-sharp riffs and soaring harmonies” – a defining element of the album’s sound.
Although The Brutal Divine respects Spread Eagle’s history, it does not attempt to live in the past. Puledda brings a modern and distinctly European dimension to the band’s New York street-metal foundation. His style combines heavy metal, classical music, blues, funk, fusion and Mediterranean influences, creating a recognizable sound sometimes described as “Mediterranean Metal.”
That musical identity was developed over decades. Born and raised in Villanova Monteleone, Sardinia, Puledda began playing guitar at 13 and formed his first band the following year. He later studied Music and New Technologies at the Conservatory of Sassari, worked as a professional session musician and performed across several genres.
Before joining Spread Eagle, Puledda established himself internationally as a lead guitarist and composer with Souls of Diotima. He contributed to The Sorceress Reveal, Atlantis and recorded all the guitars on Janas, an acclaimed album that reached No. 3 on Italy’s metal album chart and
appeared on rock charts in several other countries. He also toured Europe with Francesco Marras‘ band Screaming Shadows and is working with the group on its next album. (Marras is formerly of Tygers of Pan Tang). Puledda continues to collaborate on new music for Spread Eagle and other
projects.
Puledda’s arrival in Spread Eagle was the result of a highly competitive international audition in 2022. He recorded the band’s most technically demanding material, including “Switchblade Serenade,” “Scratch Like a Cat,” “Broken City” and “Sound of Speed,” carefully honoring the
original guitar parts while adding his own touch. After reaching the final round and auditioning in Manhattan, he was selected for his exceptional technique, tone, groove and commanding image.
What began as an opportunity to join the band on tour became a permanent and transformative role. Puledda is no longer simply interpreting Spread Eagle’s celebrated catalog – he is helping shape its future.
The European tour will carry Spread Eagle through 14 countries, including Austria, Italy, France, Switzerland, Germany, Poland, Finland, Sweden and the United Kingdom. For Puledda, performing in Italy will be particularly meaningful. He will return not simply as the young musician
who once dreamed of an international career, but as an accomplished guitarist representing a major American hard-rock band and an album bearing his creative signature.
From a small town in Sardinia to recording studios in Sweden and New York, from European tours to stages across the United States, Gianmaria “Jommy” Puledda has built an extraordinary international career. With The Brutal Divine, he has stepped decisively into the spotlight, notonly as Spread Eagle’s guitarist, but as one of the musicians driving the band into its next era.
This September, European audiences witnessed that evolution firsthand. For Puledda, the tour represented both a homecoming and a new beginning, and for Spread Eagle, The Brutal Divine announced that the band’s future is every bit as fierce as its past.
