First Single Previews Anticipated Full-Length Album Hanging Up My Halo Arriving January 22, 2027

CHICAGO, IL — Melodic death metal powerhouse STARKILL makes their highly anticipated return today with the release of their brutal new single, “Death On Display.” Accompanied by an explosive official music video premiering on YouTube and available across all major streaming platforms, the track serves as the opening salvo in the band’s campaign leading into their forthcoming full-length album, Hanging Up My Halo, set for release on January 22nd.

Recorded and refined over several years, Hanging Up My Halo marks a bold, aggressive return to the band’s melodic death metal roots. The record combines shredding guitar leads, punishing double-bass drumming, and anthemic choruses with cinematic orchestral arrangements. The album features full symphonic production across every track by Francesco Ferrini (Fleshgod Apocalypse), alongside synth contributions on the title track by Aleksi Munter (Swallow the Sun, Insomnium). Mixed by frontman Parker Jameson, with drum mixing by Chuck Macak, and mastering by Troy Glessner, the album represents Starkill at the pinnacle of their technical precision and creative intensity.

Following a hiatus during the pandemic, the band reignited their live momentum after an incredible response at 2024’s Mad With Power Fest. Since then, the band has played a myriad of shows across North America, most recently alongside Edge of Paradise, and culminating at Canada’s Loud As Hell Open Air festival.

Guitarist and vocalist Parker Jameson adds: “We actually pulled a Dethklok where we wrote an entire record, trashed it, and started over. It was one of those moments where we sat down, put our heads in our hands, and ultimately decided it wasn’t the right direction. With this new cycle, we wanted to take everything people expect from Starkill – the blisteringly fast dual-guitar work, symphonic arrangements, and impactful choruses – and strip away any clutter to hit harder than ever. October 9th is just the first taste setting the stage for January 22nd.”

“There’s been a gap in the melodic death metal scene for years, and we’re back to plant our flag in it,” says drummer Spencer Weidner. “We’ve been sitting on some of this material for the better part of a decade, writing and rewriting until every track can stand on its own. To that end, ‘Death On Display’ is absolutely brutal—I wanted to write something melodic and thrashy, but with the symphonic flare you’d find in an Elden Ring or Legend of Zelda boss fight. I think it’s safe to say we’ve walked away with something metal fans will seriously appreciate.”

Album pre-orders and exclusive merch packages are available starting today at Starkill.net.

A DECADE OF EVOLUTION: THE ROAD TO HANGING UP MY HALO

Starkill’s trajectory has been defined by continuous growth, starting from their 2013 debut Fires of Life, written while founders Spencer and Parker were still in their teens—an energetic homage to early influences like Amon Amarth and DragonForce. Their 2014 follow-up, Virus of the Mind, introduced clean vocals and showcased songwriting maturity fresh off international tours with Wintersun and Amorphis.

Their third record, Shadow Sleep, refined their hook-driven structures and vocal versatility, while 2019’s bombastic Gravity elevated and refined their profile further, featuring guest production from Coen Janssen (Epica), Aleksi Munter, and Olli Vänskä (Turisas).

Hanging Up My Halo stands on the shoulders of that legacy while delivering an undeniable statement for modern melodic death metal. Building on their successful 2026 tour dates, Starkill is now booking for 2027 and beyond.
